Clinical Laboratory Technician

Job Description
Clinical laboratory personnel examine and analyze body fluids, and cells. They look for bacteria, parasites, and other microorganisms; analyze the chemical content of fluids; match blood for transfusions; and test for drug levels in the blood that show how a patient is responding to treatment. They also also prepare specimens for examination, count cells, and look for abnormal cells in blood and body fluids.

Education Requirements
Most clinical lab techs need a Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or another science.

Job Outlook
Clinical laboratory technician jobs are expected to grow much faster than average. Most jobs will be in hospitals, but there will also be plenty of openings in diagnostic laboratories, educational services and ambulatory healthcare.
