In order to take on the healthcare shortage, the Michigan state government initiated an intensive training program to drive its residents into healthcare careers. They have also invested $30 million into local universities to promote nursing programs. In addition, there is a shortage in specialty physicians – an estimated 12% fewer than required to meet demand.
Funding is being directed at healthcare workers, and employers are sweetening the deal with substantial salaries and additional perks.
